Exterior
The new Volkswagen Jetta is VW's top selling vehicle for good reason. It looks quite sharp and drives like a dream. The vehicle's exterior is not particularly loud or bodacious in any glaring way. Yet the vehicle's front, sides and rear add up to whole that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. This year's version of the Jetta receives a slight makeover, providing improved visibility and a bit more style. Few changes were necessary with the new model as the previous incarnations looked quite visually appealing in their own right. This is a straightforward ?three box? sedan with excellent forward/rearward visibility, a chic three-bar front grille, re-stylized headlights and fog lights, a rear trunk lid spoiler and LED lights.
Interior
The new Volkswagen Jetta might be described as 'compact' yet it has more than enough interior space. This is by far one of the largest compact sedans on the market. There is ample space for upwards of four full-size adults along with a bevy of cargo. The vehicle is tall enough to permit easy entry and exit. The trunk has nearly 16 cubic feet of space. The vehicle's controls are altered with VW's signature easy-touch large round gauges. The shift knob has a sharp-looking metallic trim. The leatherette seating boasts attractive horizontal ridges.
Technology
Each Jetta trim has an easy-to-use five inch touchscreen radio. Upper level trims have a larger display that measures slightly more than six inches. Additional standard features on all Jetta models include a multifunction steering wheel and Bluetooth connectivity. The SE has the following niceties:

Performance
The new Jetta is available as a hybrid, S, SE and GLI. The SE and S trims have a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 1.4 liters, 154 horses and 184 pound feet of torque. This engine is tied to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The base model can be built with a 5-speed manual if desired. The SEL trim boasts a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 170 horses, 1.8 liters and 184 pound feet of torque. The GLI version features a turbocharged 4-cylinder with 2.0 liters, 210 horses and 207 pound feet of torque. This engine can be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission or a dual clutch automatic transmission. The '17 Jetta hits 60 mph from a full stop at slightly more than seven seconds. It achieves right around 30 combined mpg.
Safety
The new Jetta has been awarded with the IIHS Top Safety Pick. The vehicle earned the best possible 'Good' score on all tests including the uber-challenging small-overlap front crash category. The federal government's test resulted in a five-star safety score. Safety features include:

- Six airbags
The SE trim has a rear cross-traffic alert system and blind spot monitors. The SEL has safeguards like a forward collision warning system that features automatic emergency braking.
